“Academy manhwa” can mean very different things. You might want lessons and exams, rival students, a capable teacher, or simply a fantasy story that happens to pass through a school. These picks put the academy into the central setup, with a clear reason to choose each one.
Quick picks
Choose The Infinite Mage for learning magic, The Academy’s Genius Swordsman for combat training and a second chance, or The Extra’s Academy Survival Guide for a student trying to stay afloat inside a game. The Academy’s Undercover Professor offers a different angle: an adult teaching under a stolen identity.

The Infinite Mage
Sirone grows up in a loving but poor household and becomes fascinated by books and magic. His encounter with a mage gives him a first practical step toward something society treats as a noble privilege. That combination of curiosity and restricted opportunity is the reason to start here.

Sirone’s first practical step is learning to enter the “spirit zone” after an encounter with a mage. That gives his curiosity something concrete to work on. The appeal is discovering how a discipline works, with a talented student whose family background makes access difficult. Having potential and knowing what to do with it are separate stages here.
The opening spends time establishing where Sirone comes from. Do not expect to begin in the middle of a school tournament. Readers who want immediate expert-level combat may prefer Genius Swordsman, while those who enjoy watching access and understanding develop have a clearer reason to stay.
Read The Infinite Mage comic on Tapas. At the September 23 check, the page still carried a Season 2 break notice. It offered free opening episodes and one-day Wait Until Free unlocks for eligible episodes, excluding the latest 45. The separately listed novel is a different format.
The Academy’s Genius Swordsman
Ronan survives a devastating battle only to face an even greater threat. His commander sends him back into the past, where attending Phileon Academy becomes part of preparing for a different outcome. The academy has a purpose beyond earning a respectable qualification.
Ronan arrives with the experience of someone who has already seen the world fall apart. His younger body still needs preparation, but his reason to train is unusually clear. That makes him a better fit than Sirone if you want a student who brings hard-earned knowledge into the classroom. The school is a means of changing a disastrous future, so expect the larger conflict to matter alongside campus life.
The attraction is the gap between his experience and the age people see. The limitation follows from the same premise: a reader mainly interested in ordinary lessons, friendships and exams may find that preventing catastrophe is a much bigger concern than finishing a school year.

The Extra’s Academy Survival Guide
A player wakes as Ed Rothstaylor, a minor game villain who has lost his family’s support and his dormitory accommodation. Getting a scholarship and making it to graduation suddenly matter more than becoming the grand hero of the game.
Ed’s problem is refreshingly practical: knowing the plot does not give him a bed, tuition money or a safe route to graduation. That makes every useful resource and relationship matter. The school is more than scenery because staying enrolled is part of staying alive. If you prefer a capable expert who can immediately command a room, the professor below is a closer match.
The romantic attention is part of the premise: several female leads become involved with him despite his wish to remain in the background. If you dislike a setup with multiple potential romantic interests, account for that before committing. The survival idea and those relationships come together.

The Academy’s Undercover Professor
A man with a history of assumed identities takes the name of Ludger Cherish after a train attack. Becoming a professor brings a complication: the dead man’s identity comes with secrets of its own. He must avoid exposure at the academy and trouble from a dangerous organization.
His competence is already part of the setup; the uncertainty comes from using it without exposing himself. Even accepting a teaching post becomes risky when the name on the appointment carries obligations he did not choose. That makes a conversation with colleagues potentially as important as a display of magic. It is the clearest choice here for an experienced adult lead, rather than a student discovering their first talent.
Choose it for that double life, rather than expecting a straightforward student progression story. WEBTOON marks the English comic completed and lists a series finale and afterword. That is useful if you want an available endpoint, although it says nothing by itself about how fully the comic covers the novel.

Want an overpowered lead, school life or romance?
For an experienced lead, begin with Undercover Professor. Ronan is the student option with prior combat experience. Sirone offers talent that still has to become knowledge, while Ed’s useful head start is knowing a game whose world he must now live in. Those are different pleasures: confidence, a second chance, discovery and resourcefulness. None needs a promise that the hero can never struggle.
For lessons and understanding magic, Infinite Mage is the closest fit in this selection. For romance woven into a survival setup, Extra’s Academy is the clearest option, with several potential romantic interests rather than one uncomplicated pairing. The other three are recommended here for magic, combat or intrigue; this is not a ranking of academy romances. If a love story is your main requirement, that distinction matters more than the presence of a school uniform.
Only Undercover Professor has a completed English comic in this group. WEBTOON lists a finale and afterword, but that should not be confused with a promise that the novel was adapted in full. The other choices involve waiting for further releases or the next season.
Where to read the English comics
Use the official series links above so you land on the comic rather than a novel or an unofficial title variant. WEBTOON may reserve later episodes for its app; Tapas shows which episodes are free or eligible for timed unlocks. Neither an ongoing label nor a completed label tells you the total cost of catching up.
