You can follow the story in release order without rearranging flashbacks. The complication comes from cinema releases that reuse television episodes, and streaming services that group arcs under different season labels. Use the arc names below to keep your place.

What to watch Order Length Required?
Tanjiro Kamado, Unwavering Resolve Arc (season one, 2019) 1 26 episodes Yes. Start here.
Mugen Train Arc (TV, 2021) or The Movie: Mugen Train (2020) 2 7 episodes or one film Yes, one version.
Entertainment District Arc (2021–2022) 3 11 episodes Yes.
Swordsmith Village Arc (2023) 4 11 episodes Yes.
Hashira Training Arc (2024) 5 8 episodes Yes.
Infinity Castle I (2025) 6 One film Yes, after Hashira Training.

The television route adds up to 63 episodes before Infinity Castle I. If you choose the Mugen Train film instead of its seven TV episodes, the route becomes 56 TV episodes plus Mugen Train and Infinity Castle I. These are viewing routes, not a claim that the whole anime story is finished.

Mugen Train: movie or seven-episode arc?

For a new viewer, the TV arc is the easiest recommendation. It includes an original opening episode following Rengoku before the main train story, then adapts the film’s events with additional material. You can stay in episode mode and continue straight into Entertainment District.

The movie is equally valid if you prefer one uninterrupted sitting. You do not lose the central Mugen Train storyline by choosing it. What you miss is the TV-exclusive opening and smaller additions, rather than an entirely different adventure.

If you have already seen the movie, watch TV episode one if you want Rengoku’s extra mission, then move to Entertainment District. Rewatching TV episodes two through seven is optional. For a first viewing that combines the unique opening with the film, watch TV episode one, then the movie.

Do not skip the train story altogether. It sits between season one and Entertainment District, and the later arc assumes you know what happened. “It was a movie” does not mean “it was a side story.”

Which theatrical releases can you skip?

Two similar-looking titles cause most of the confusion. They were event screenings that paired an arc’s ending with the next arc’s opening. They are optional when you are watching the full television arcs.

Title What it includes What to do on a first watch
To the Swordsmith Village (2023) Entertainment District episodes 10–11 and Swordsmith Village episode 1. Watch the complete TV arcs instead.
To the Hashira Training (2024) Swordsmith Village episode 11 and Hashira Training episode 1. Watch the complete TV arcs instead.

A title beginning with “To the…” is not the full season that follows. Watching To the Hashira Training does not replace the remaining Hashira Training episodes. If you have already watched one of these screenings, use its included episode numbers to resume without repeating material.

Other recap or compilation editions of earlier arcs are optional alongside the full episodes. The safest rule is to follow the six entries in the main table. That avoids a long shopping list of releases that contain the same scenes.

Where Infinity Castle fits in 2026

Infinity Castle I follows the end of Hashira Training. It continues the story; it is not a recap film or a starting point for newcomers. Finish all eight Hashira Training episodes before it.

As of September 19, 2026, the first film has had its theatrical release and its announced Crunchyroll and digital release on July 28, 2026. The official announcement excludes Japan and mainland China from that Crunchyroll release; digital purchase is offered in selected territories. Open the official Demon Slayer listing on Crunchyroll and check the season or film selector in your region before planning around a particular service.

Is the Demon Slayer anime finished?

No. As of September 20, 2026, Infinity Castle I is the first film in a planned trilogy, not the completed anime ending. The original manga is finished at 23 volumes, but its completion is separate from the adaptation’s release schedule. Do not mistake a trilogy announcement for three movies already available to watch.

If you are catching up specifically for Infinity Castle, there is no special shortcut order. The earlier arcs establish the cast and the stakes. The main table is already the route without duplicate compilations.

Why season numbers do not always match

Some catalogs present Mugen Train and Entertainment District together as season two. Others list each arc separately or count dubbed editions as additional groups in a menu. Neither changes the story order.

When two entries look alike, inspect the arc name and episode titles. A seven-episode Mugen Train entry belongs before the eleven-episode Entertainment District entry. Swordsmith Village comes next, followed by the eight-episode Hashira Training arc. Avoid choosing a result just because its label has the next number.

Can you skip training or “filler”?

For a first watch, keep the full television arcs. Training, recovery and quieter conversations establish relationships that the battles later depend on. This guide recommends skipping duplicate presentations, not cutting out portions of the actual story.

Hashira Training is particularly easy to underestimate because it is shorter and its name sounds like an optional interlude. It leads directly into the next stage. Skipping it leaves a gap at exactly the point where you want the transition to make sense.

Where should a returning viewer resume?

  • Finished season one? Choose a Mugen Train version.
  • Finished the Mugen Train movie? Entertainment District is next; TV Mugen Train episode one is optional extra material.
  • Finished Entertainment District? Start Swordsmith Village episode one.
  • Finished Swordsmith Village? Start Hashira Training episode one.
  • Finished Hashira Training? Continue with Infinity Castle I.
