The confusing part is that the story jumps backward in time, while cinemas have also released edited versions of TV episodes. Those are two different issues. Keep the television seasons in release order, put 0 between the first two, and the introductions fall into place without a timeline spreadsheet.

Jujutsu Kaisen release order: the best route for a first watch

The recommended route for new viewers
Watch next Episodes or format Why it belongs here
Season 1 24 episodes; overall episodes 1–24 Meet Yuji and learn how this world works alongside him.
Jujutsu Kaisen 0 A feature film about Yuta Okkotsu A different protagonist, with connections that matter as you continue.
Season 2 23 episodes; overall episodes 25–47 Starts with Gojo’s past, then returns to the main timeline and the Shibuya Incident.
Season 3: Culling Game Part 1 12 episodes; overall episodes 48–59 Continues the consequences of Season 2. Begin at its first episode.

That is 59 numbered TV episodes and one story film through Culling Game Part 1. Its finale aired in March 2026; “Part 1” does not mean the entire Jujutsu Kaisen story is complete. The official episode index separates the seasons and film if your streaming app’s labels are unclear.

Our video explains why this order works, where 0 fits, and how to avoid repeating the compilation films.

When should you watch Jujutsu Kaisen 0?

Watch 0 after Season 1 and before Season 2. It takes place earlier than Yuji’s story, but by this point you already understand curses, sorcerers and the school. You can pay attention to Yuta’s circumstances instead of trying to learn the whole setting at once.

Starting with 0 is possible: it is a prequel with its own central conflict. It is simply a different introduction. If a friend has already shown you the film, go to Season 1 next; you have not broken the series.

Do not mistake 0 for a recap of Season 1. It follows Yuta, and skipping it removes context that the later anime expects to resonate. Conversely, you do not need to pause midway through Season 1 to insert it at a supposedly perfect chronological moment.

Season 2: the backward jump is intentional

Season 2 opens with Hidden Inventory / Premature Death, often called Gojo’s Past. These are Season 2 episodes 1–5, or overall episodes 25–29. The change in cast and time period is deliberate; you have not accidentally opened a spinoff.

Continue with Season 2 episode 6, overall episode 30, and keep going through episode 23. The season returns to the present-day characters before the Shibuya storyline takes over. Watching the flashback where it was placed lets it change how you understand the people you have already met.

For that reason, moving Gojo’s past to the very beginning is more useful for a rewatch than an introduction. Chronology answers “what happened first”; release order usually does a better job of answering “what should I know now?”

Which Jujutsu Kaisen movies are optional?

A story film and two compilation releases serve different purposes
Film What it contains Do you need it?
Jujutsu Kaisen 0 Yuta’s prequel story Recommended as part of the main viewing route.
Hidden Inventory / Premature Death – The Movie A compilation of the opening arc of Season 2 Optional if you watched Season 2 episodes 1–5.
Jujutsu Kaisen: Execution A Shibuya compilation and a preview of the first two Season 3 episodes Optional; it does not replace the whole of Season 2 or Season 3.

For a first watch, keep the full television arcs. The compilation films are useful for a refresher or a cinema outing, but they repeat material rather than adding another required story between seasons.

Where to continue after Jujutsu Kaisen: Execution

Crunchyroll confirms that Execution combines a Shibuya compilation with the first two episodes of Season 3. If you watched the full film and remember that preview, the next new TV episode is Season 3 episode 3, overall episode 50. If the film is hazy or you only saw clips, restart Season 3 at episode 1. You will repeat the preview, but you will have a clean handoff.

Do not use Execution as a shortcut past all of Season 2: its Shibuya compilation is not the full 23-episode season. Also, Season 3 episode 1 is itself titled “Execution”; that TV episode and the compilation film are different listings.

Jujutsu Kaisen in chronological order

The simplest JJK watch order follows release order. For a rewatch focused on when events happen, use this chronological route instead:

  • Season 2 episodes 1–5: Gojo’s past.
  • Jujutsu Kaisen 0: Yuta’s story.
  • Season 1 episodes 1–24: Yuji’s introduction.
  • Season 2 episodes 6–23: the return to the present and Shibuya.
  • Season 3 episodes 1–12: Culling Game Part 1.

This rearranges the main story blocks, rather than trying to move every individual flashback. No further cutting and switching is necessary. Keep the compilations optional here too, or you will duplicate whole stretches of the timeline.

Can you skip filler or recap episodes?

You do not need a Bleach-style filler skip list for the numbered Jujutsu Kaisen seasons above. Keep their numbered episodes. Separate recap broadcasts and compilation films can be left out when you are watching the complete TV versions.

A flashback is not filler just because it steps away from Yuji. In particular, skipping the opening five episodes of Season 2 would remove a substantial piece of character context. If an app puts a recap in the middle of its episode menu, compare its title and number with the official index rather than advancing by the app’s tile count alone.

Where to watch Jujutsu Kaisen

Watch the Jujutsu Kaisen series on Crunchyroll. For the prequel, go directly to Jujutsu Kaisen 0 on Crunchyroll. The film has its own listing, so an empty season selector does not necessarily mean it is missing. Check availability, subtitles and dub options in your country before subscribing.

The Season 1 trailer below is a useful introduction to the show’s supernatural action and horror imagery. Save trailers for later arcs until you reach them if you prefer to avoid seeing future matchups.

How much is there to watch, and what comes after Season 3?

Allow roughly 25–26 hours for the 59 TV episodes and Jujutsu Kaisen 0. That is a planning estimate, not an exact runtime: episode lengths and whether you skip credits will change it. Compilation films are extra viewing, not part of that essential route.

As of September 24, 2026, Season 4: Culling Game Part 2 has been announced and is in production. It is the next continuation after overall episode 59, but it is not yet another season you can add to your streaming queue. The official broadcast page distinguishes the upcoming fourth season from the available seasons. Compilation films do not continue the story past Culling Game Part 1.

Starting another series in the meantime? Our Demon Slayer watch order also separates movies from overlapping television material. For a longer series with substantial optional arcs, use the Bleach watch order and filler guide.
