You can follow Bleach’s main story without watching every anime-original detour. Use the skip-and-resume table below for the original 366-episode series, keep mixed episodes, then move to Thousand-Year Blood War after episode 366.
The most useful rule is to check individual episode numbers, not skip an entire streaming season. A collection can contain both an optional storyline and the return to the main plot. This guide avoids plot outcomes and uses the original series’ continuous numbering.
Bleach filler list: what to skip and where to resume
The classification below follows Anime Filler List’s community episode guide. It removes 163 episodes and retains 203, including mixed episodes. “Filler” here means optional for this route through the manga-based story, not a judgment that an episode cannot be enjoyable.

| Optional episodes | Resume at episode |
|---|---|
| 33 | 34 |
| 50 | 51 |
| 64 to 108 | 109 |
| 128 to 137 | 138 |
| 147 to 149 | 150 |
| 168 to 189 | 190 |
| 204 to 205 | 206 |
| 213 to 214 | 215 |
| 228 to 266 | 267 |
| 287 | 288 |
| 298 to 299 | 300 |
| 303 to 305 | 306 |
| 311 to 341 | 342 |
| 355 | 356 |
For example, after finishing episode 63, select 109. After finishing 227, select 267. Do not let autoplay carry you into a long optional block if your aim is to keep the current storyline moving.

Follow the skip-and-resume route in this video, with examples of mixed episodes and optional arcs to save for later.
Keep mixed episodes on your first watch
A mixed episode contains material from the manga alongside additions made for television. Skipping the whole episode can remove an introduction, a conversation or a transition you need. The simpler approach is to watch every episode not listed in the table.
Keep your episode numbering consistent when comparing guides. One list may group an entire arc while another separates its mixed opening or closing episode. The boundary explanations below cover the cases most likely to make you resume in the wrong place.
Is episode 109 filler?
Keep 109 on this route. It sits at the end of the Bount material but is classified as mixed, so the table resumes there rather than at 110. Expect references to the anime-original story you have just skipped. Their presence does not mean you accidentally missed a required main-story arc.
Should you skip episode 227?
No. Watch 227, “Wonderful Error.” Its placement near a long detour makes it easy to skip by mistake. The official TV Tokyo synopsis describes a look back at Ichigo’s school life and relationships. It is not part of the block that begins at 228.
What about episodes 266 and 342?
Episode 266 works as a refresher after a long interruption. Skip it when watching continuously, or use it to reorient yourself after a break. Episode 342 is a mixed transition that this route retains. Those two boundary episodes are one reason copying an arc’s broad start and end numbers can produce a different list.
Are any Bleach filler arcs worth watching?
If you mainly want to reach the next main-story development, leave optional arcs for later. If you enjoy the supporting cast, choose a detour for the kind of story it offers:
- Bount storyline: a substantial anime-original adventure involving spirit-consuming opponents. Try it if you want more time with the early cast; skip it if the Soul Society storyline has left you eager to continue.
- New Captain Shusuke Amagai: an additional captain and a separate mystery. Its interruption of the ongoing plot is the main reason to postpone it.
- Zanpakuto Rebellion: gives the swords’ spirits a physical presence and makes their relationships with the Soul Reapers the attraction. This is the most natural optional pick if the weapons and their personalities interest you.
- Gotei 13 Invading Army: uses lookalike opponents to create fights involving familiar characters. Choose it for those matchups rather than essential preparation for the next adapted arc.
Do not jump ahead to these arcs before meeting their characters in the main series. The official Bleach episode archive is useful for matching a title or scene to an episode, but its images can reveal later characters and battles.
How long is Bleach without filler?
The 203-episode route takes approximately 78 hours at 23 minutes per episode. All 366 original episodes would take about 140 hours on the same basis. That saves roughly 62 hours before accounting for skipped openings, credits or recaps.
At two episodes a day, allow about 102 days for the shorter route. This estimate excludes movies and TYBW. Skipping filler also does not remove every pacing issue: explanations, reaction shots and recaps still appear within adapted episodes. Our Bleach anime review explains that trade-off in more detail.
Does this list apply to Thousand-Year Blood War?
No. TYBW is the sequel to the original series and uses its own episode numbering on many services. Finish original episode 366, then start TYBW at episode 1. Do not apply “skip episode 33” from this table to a TYBW episode carrying that number.
Before moving to the sequel, keep the original show’s final main-story arc, often called The Lost Agent or Fullbring. Its smaller-scale conflict can feel different from the battles before it, but a change of tone does not make it filler. Follow the table through episode 366 rather than jumping straight from the earlier climax to TYBW.
Added scenes in a new adaptation are not automatically disposable filler. This table covers the older series only. For the order of TYBW parts and the optional movies, use the complete Bleach watch order.
How to find the right episode on your streaming service
Check the original Bleach listing rather than the separate TYBW listing. If your service resets numbering for each season, compare the episode title with the official archive before skipping ahead. A season number alone is not a reliable match across platforms.
Use VIZ’s official Bleach hub for viewing options. US readers comparing what to start on the service can also use our Hulu anime guide. If a skip leaves you at an unfamiliar scene, confirm the original-series episode number first; brief anime-original character appearances do not require watching an entire omitted arc.
