The early Renegade Immortal cultivation levels are Qi Condensation, Foundation Establishment, Core Formation, Nascent Soul, Soul Formation, Soul Transformation and Ascendant, in that order. These make up the First Step. Ancient God stars belong to a separate body-cultivation path, so a star count is not another name for one of those realms.

If you are watching Xian Ni and a subtitle has introduced an unfamiliar rank, use the Chinese name in the table to match translations. The later-novel chart is separated below because even the names of future realms can spoil the scale of Wang Lin’s journey.

Renegade Immortal cultivation levels at a glance

The table runs from the lowest early realm to the highest. Match an unfamiliar subtitle to the Chinese term before comparing ranks.

Realm Chinese name Names you may encounter How to recognise it
Qi Condensation 凝气 Qi Gathering, Qi Refining The opening realm. Its numbered layers are progress within Qi Condensation.
Foundation Establishment 筑基 Foundation Building A major breakthrough after Qi Condensation, not simply its next numbered layer.
Core Formation 结丹 Golden Core, Core Establishment The formation of a core marks a new cultivation base.
Nascent Soul 元婴 Yuan Ying The nascent soul is a distinct development beyond the core.
Soul Formation 化神 Spirit Transformation, Deity Transformation Comprehension and a personal domain become central.
Soul Transformation 婴变 Infant Transformation, Ying Bian The domain can materialise, and celestial spiritual energy enters cultivation.
Ascendant 问鼎 Wen Ding The last major realm of the First Step; higher Steps follow.

Watch the two “transformation” names carefully. An English subtitle can use Spirit Transformation for 化神, while another uses Soul Transformation for 婴变. The Chinese terms identify two successive realms, even when the English wording looks almost identical.

What changes when a cultivator advances?

Learning a technique and entering a new realm are separate achievements. Wang Lin can improve his control of an existing technique while remaining at the same cultivation base. A breakthrough changes that base, rather than merely adding another attack to his repertoire.

Later, understanding matters as much as accumulation. A domain expresses a cultivator’s comprehension of their path. That gives the mortal-life portions of Wang Lin’s journey a practical purpose: reflection can affect his progress even when he is not collecting resources or winning fights.

Do not use a battle result as a substitute for the stated cultivation base. Treasures, injuries, preparation, techniques and a separate body path can change a fight. Defeating someone above your realm does not automatically mean that you have entered their realm.

Soul Formation versus Soul Transformation

Soul Formation comes first. Soul Transformation comes next. The distinction is unusually clear in the licensed novel’s Chapter 410: the transition involves a completed domain, its materialisation and the ability to absorb celestial spiritual energy.

This is why “he has a domain” and “he has reached Soul Transformation” are not interchangeable statements. The existence of a domain belongs to the earlier discussion; what it can become is part of the later breakthrough. Check the full subtitle line before treating either phrase as confirmation of a new realm.

Layers, realms and Steps are different scales

  • A layer or substage describes progress inside a realm. Numbered Qi Condensation layers and terms such as early, middle, late and peak belong here.
  • A realm is a major stage such as Core Formation or Soul Formation.
  • A Step groups several realms into a much larger part of the cultivation path.

Qi Condensation has 15 layers in the early novel. Chapter 27 explains them while Wang Lin works toward the second layer. Those 15 layers are subdivisions of one realm, not 15 realms before Foundation Establishment.

For another example, peak Nascent Soul is still Nascent Soul. Soul Formation begins only after the next major breakthrough. The label “First Step” is broader again: it includes both of those realms and ends at Ascendant.

How Ancient God stars fit Wang Lin’s progression

Ancient God cultivation develops the body and is expressed through stars. Ordinary cultivator realms describe a different progression. Keep two separate entries when tracking Wang Lin: his spiritual cultivation base and his Ancient God body.

The star system runs through one to nine stars, but a neat table saying that every star always equals one named cultivator realm would be misleading. The novel makes comparisons in particular situations. Those comparisons do not establish a universal exchange rate for every body, technique and opponent.

A rise in Ancient God stars does not, by itself, tell you that Wang Lin has advanced from one spiritual realm to the next. When dialogue mentions his strength, check which path the speaker is describing.

Show the higher Steps and realm names

The following sequence covers the later novel, beyond the First Step.

Scroll across to compare all columns →

Part of the path Sequence Important distinction
Transition after the First Step Illusory Yin → Corporeal Yang Bridge stages before the Second Step; not additional Ancient God stars.
Second Step Nirvana Scryer → Nirvana Cleanser → Nirvana Shatterer Three different realms, despite the shared word Nirvana.
Transition toward the Third Step Heaven’s Blight A sequence of five blights, not five unrelated major realms.
Third Step Nirvana Void → Spirit Void → Arcane Void → Void Tribulant Nirvana Void is later than Nirvana Shatterer, not another translation of it.
Beyond the Third Step Half-step Heaven Trampling → Heaven Trampling Separate an approach to the threshold from completing the breakthrough.

The Second Step’s three Nirvana realms are explicitly discussed in the licensed translation’s cultivation passage. Chapter 1651 distinguishes the later Void realms, while Chapter 2065 concerns Heaven Trampling. These are late-novel links.

Names such as Exalt or Empyrean can describe standing among powerful cultivators. Do not insert every honorific you encounter as a new realm between the rows above. Nor should realms from other Er Gen novels be appended as if the original Renegade Immortal explained them all.

How to identify Wang Lin’s level in your episode

Use the episode number from the platform you are actually watching, then check the most recent explicit breakthrough or stated cultivation base. A compilation’s “episode 1” can contain material from much later in the series. An announcement about his body may also concern Ancient God cultivation rather than his spiritual realm.

If a subtitle says Ying Bian (婴变), the matching realm is Soul Transformation. If it gives an Ancient God star count instead, use the body-cultivation section. Neither term needs a search for Wang Lin’s final novel level.
